young Saudi inventor Rada Al-Khlifi(via saudigazette.com.sa) Rada Al-Khlifi, 10, left of Saudi Arabia is accompanied by her sister Nada as she explains her invention, an electronic device that protects infants from asphyxiation, at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, Switzerland, on Wednesday. A small sending box placed on the baby’s chest is connected to a receiving box the mother carries with her. If the child’s heartbeat becomes irregular, or if it chokes or makes some sudden movement, an alarm signal goes off at the receiving box, roughly the size of a palm of a hand. Rada, who took science class as part of the ordinary school curriculum, says she hopes her device will allow mothers and nannies to pursue their activities quietly without constant worry about the sleeping baby. – AP photo
