Ever since the iphone 3GS hit the Saudi market everyone has been excited about obtaining the new technology. Only to be shocked with the ridiculous prices. Over at Mobily, prices are anywhere from 3,699 to 4,500 S.R.. Over at Axiom prices are even crazier with a 36G iPhone 3GS going for 6,500 S.R. ($1,733). At Carrefour Hypermarket an iphone 3GS 16G is 4,699 and a 36G is 4,899 with a 1 year warranty from Axiom. The prices are outragous, and due to apple’s fixed prices, we wont see a drop in price.
Allot of interested customs in the iPhone have opted to an alternative which is widely practiced, unlocked iphones. They purchase unlocked iPhone from overseas, mostly from online vendors with prices ranging between 3,000 to 3,600 S.R.. Unlocked iPhones are not to be updated, and need more care as to not be locked/bricked. iPhone Bricked is a term given to the iPhone after an update or hack reduces functionality. The name is also applied to phones that are unable to activate through normal methods. Apartial fix for a bricked iPhone, which restores partial functionality, has been discovered. Apple does not offer support for bricked phones that contain unauthorized software. They will support clean iPhones that become bricked by a failed software upgrade.
You can find many vendors offering unlocked iPhones on facebook marketplace. You should note that not all these vendors can be trust, and it’s best to check your source.

Is Mobily officially selling the iPhone 3GS now?
There’s no mention of the 3Gs on the Mobily site, and even the Saudi Arabia iPhone page at apple.com says that the 3GS will be coming soon (not available yet).
