About Workshop

Free/open source software technologies (FOSST) have shown a remarkably success for its short history which is acknowledged by a large number of organization and the community. The philosophy and methodology of open source software play the main role toward its success and achievements. Its philosophy and methodology have been partially adopted in many software projects over the globe. It is getting momentum these years and many large scale projects are making great impact and having big shares of the market. Registration deadline in April 19, 2010.

In recognition of these facts, the National Program for Free Open Software Technologies (NPFOSST) at King Abdulaziz City for Science & Technology (KACST) is organizing the first international workshop on Free/Open Source Software Technologies (FOSST). The workshop will be held at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology in Riyadh, during the period 24-26 April 2010. This workshop aims to bring together researchers, developers, and users of FOSST to share their experience and contribute toward FOSST initiatives in the region and the world. The workshop aims to show how FOSST may contribute toward our economic future and community in many aspects.

Objectives

The goal of the workshop is to bring together interested academics, practitioners, and enthusiasts to discuss topics related to the area of FOSST. This workshop also aims to show how FOSST may contribute toward our economic future and community, so this workshop will identify and provide several keys:

  1. Provide opportunities to members of the community to interact and share experience with each other.
  2. Create an awareness of FOSST and the potential thereof.
  3. Review the present status of FOSST.
  4. Identify future directions for the standardization work FOSST.
  5. Identify the impact on FOSST.
  6. Contribute to the establishment of a roadmap for NPFOSST
