(arabnews.com) An official source at Saudi Arabian Airlines announced Sunday that a fee of SR15 will be added to the prices of local tickets issued by travel agencies and Saudia offices starting June 15.
“Tickets issued electronically will be free of charge but tickets for domestic flights issued by travel agencies or Saudia offices will have an issuance charge of SR15,” he said. The official said all international airlines are restructuring their sales outlets by expanding the concept of self-service through the Internet.
“This will make it easy for travelers to obtain their tickets anytime, anywhere in the country,” he added. Saudia has introduced the system of direct ticket purchases through the Internet and automatic ticketing kiosks. By so doing the commission used to be paid to travel agents for issuance of domestic tickets has been abolished.
Flights suspended
Meanwhile, Saudia suspended all flights to and from Karachi on Sunday because of cyclone Phet which is heading to Karachi from Oman.
Saudia’s assistant director general for public relations, Abdullah bin Mushabab Al-Ajhar, said three scheduled Saudia flights to Karachi from Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam on Sunday were canceled after Pakistan declared an emergency in its coastal areas. Al-Ajhar apologized for the inconvenience and said Saudia will allow travelers to reschedule flights for free. He added that flights would continue to be suspended until the cyclone ends.
